Mother of ‘Simpsons’ creator dies at 94

Margaret Groening, the mother of Simpsons creator Matt Groening died peacefully on April 22 at her home in Portland, Oregon.

Margaret was the inspiration for Marge Simpson, as her husband “classmate Homer Groening, whom she chose because he made her laugh the most,” was named after her husband, Homer Simpson.

Most of the Simpsons characters were based off street names in Portland and all of the Simpsons family, except for Bart, were named after the Groening family.

A fan wrote in her obituary book, “RIP Margaret… you may have been born a Wiggum, and married a Groening, but you died a Simpson.”

May her blue hair live on…
