Now that’s what we call thinking ahead.
Oscar-winning, philanthropist, mother of six, and wife of sexy man Brad Pitt has told New York Times that she underwent a double mastectomy after being told she had an 87 percent chance of contracting breast cancer.
Jolie told the paper, “We knew this was the right thing to do for our family and that it would bring us closer. And it has.”
“I choose not to keep my story private because there are many women who do not know that they might be living under the shadow of cancer,” she continued. And because of her decision, her chance of having breast cancer has gone down to “under five percent.”
Jolie has also revealed she has about a 50 percent chance of developing ovarian cancer, the disease that killed her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, at age 56.
However, because the breasts included a more complex procedure, she began with that surgery and will go from there.
“Cancer is still a word that strikes fear into people’s hearts, producing a deep sense of powerlessness. But today it is possible to find out through a blood test whether you are highly susceptible to breast and ovarian cancer, and then take action.”
And we’re sure women all over will be thanking Angelina Jolie.
