Ray Donovan star ties the knot

The Poker Club

His on-screen life may not be looking too hot, but he’s certainly living large in real life.

It’s just slipped out that actor Johnathon Schaech, who plays movie star Sean Walker on the Showtime hit Ray Donovan, secretly married literary publicist and girlfriend Julie Solomon late July in Ocean City, Maryland.

He told People, “”It was just a small group of family and friends on the beach at sunset.”

One secret the couple aren’t hiding is that they will becoming parents to baby boy Camden (yes, they’ve already named him) any day now!

Despite this being his third marriage- he was divorced from actress Christina Applegate in 2007 and in 2010 him and Jana Kramer ended their two month marriage- Schaech told People, “Looking back, I’m grateful to have gone through what I have, almost as if it’s prepared for me for this. I’m so grateful to have Julie in my life. I feel ready and [dreams] are coming true.”

Congrats to the couple; we sure do hope third time’s a charm!

Magic Mike strips down for Broadway

Magic_Mike 7/29/12

Is it getting hot in here…or is it just Channing Tatum?

According to his official websiteMagic Mike is not just becoming a sequel; it’s heading to the big apple!

We don’t know much, but we do know People’s “Sexiest Man Alive” will be producing alongside Reid Carolin, the film’s director Steven Soderbergh, and co-producers Gregory Jacobs and Nick Wechsler.

Word is, the songs will be written by the Tony and Pullitzer-winning team Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey. So maybe the musical will have some “Next to Normal” spin and badass songs to go with Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s book.

It looks like this won’t be a show for children of all ages, but it definitely will be a show we need to get our hands on. When do tickets go on sale?!?!?

It’s a royal day for a royal birth

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge get a demonstration of Tech City technology

It looks like the whole world will be celebrating tonight. A very congratulations over in London to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The baby might have come past its due date, but at around 4 pm Monday Will and Kate were happily surprised by a son, who will be third in line to the throne. He weighed in at a whopping 8 lb. 6 oz (ouch!)

Hillary Scott in Alexander McQueen

Another birth to celebrate, this time over in the states, is that of Lady Antebellum singer Hillary Scott and husband Chris Tyrell’s daughter Eisele Kaye, who was born on Monday in Nashville.

Tyrell told People, “She is incredibly gorgeous,” speaking of their 7 lb. 13 oz. baby.

And of course a huge congratulations to E!‘s Kristina Guerrero who welcomed son Mateo Cruz Ångel with hubby Gibby Cevallos on Thursday afternoon.

Yay. We LOVE baby season!

Glee star found dead in hotel room

Cory Monteith

It has been confirmed that 31-year old Cory Monteith died Saturday at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in downtown Vancouver. He was found in his room on the 21st floor by staff members after he missed his checkout time.

His publicist, Melissa Kates told USA Today, “We are so saddened to confirm that the reports on the death of Cory Monteith are accurate. We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss.”

Monteith, who played Finn Hudson on Fox’s hit Glee, had struggled with drugs for years and had recently finished up a rehab program in April.

Vancouver Acting Police Chief Doug LePard says, “The Coroner will be determining the next steps with respect to establishing cause of death, but all indications are that there was no foul play.” While it is said to have been an overdose, an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Girlfriend and co-star Lea Michele had been by the actor’s side since 2011. Back in April, she told People, “I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this. I am grateful and proud he made this decision.” The two were last seen together publicly June 8.

Twitter has been overflowing with love for Monteith. Glee frequent director Adam Shankman wrote, “”The lights in my world just grew dimmer. The world just lost one of our best. I love u so much…”

Others, however, are not taking the news so lightly. Co-star and friend Mark Saling simply tweeted, “No.”

We mourn the loss of one of Hollywood’s greatest. If you or someone you know has a drug problem, get help before it’s too late.

Paula Deen meets James Deen?

Paula Deen

After being dropped from partner businesses, such as Walmart and JC Penney, Paula Deen’s gotta find some way to bring in the dough. However, this time it won’t involve cooking in the kitchen.

According to TMZ, porn site PureMature.com is offering Deen “6 figures for very little work,” and won’t require any nudity.

The site calls the 66-year old mother of two a MILF, saying that “Full figured or thin, arthritic or diabetic — you embody our perfect spokesperson.”

Though sources told People that Deen cares more about her reputation than her money, six figures sounds better than a burger in between two donuts.

So will Paula Deen butter herself up for the camera? We sure do hope not; she may be losing millions through dropped sponsorships, but that doesn’t mean she has to lose anymore of her dignity.

Ruben Studdard joins The Biggest Loser

Ruben Studdard

He’s back…and unfortunately bigger than ever.

For those who know Ruben Studdard, he is the “Velvet Teddy Bear” and winner of season two of American Idol. But now he’s ready to put his battle with obesity behind him as he becomes a contestant on the season 15 of NBC’s The Biggest Loser in the fall.

After an attempt at a strict diet and workout regimen with renowned trainer Gunnar Peterson back in 2006, Studdard told People, “I was losing weight, but I was exhausted. It was making me sick.”

The “Sorry for 2004” singer then decided to throw away the 1,200 calorie-a-day plan and instead trade it in for exercise and vegetarianism which helped him lose 70 pounds.

His 2012 divorce from Surata Zuri McCants resulted in him gaining the weight back, but now wants to take charge once and for all.

“‘I’ve never had an issue with my weight,’ Studdard has said. ‘[But] my family has a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, heart-related issues – things I didn’t have to deal with yet because I’m young. But I don’t want to be worried at 40, and if I don’t fix things now, I will be.'”

So will Jillian Michaels help whip Ruben into shape? We have no doubt; but he will always be our Velvet Teddy Bear.

Jason Segel and Michelle Williams SPLIT!

Michelle Williams, Matilda Rose LedgerJason Segel

After a year together, funnyman Jason Segel and Oz The Great and Powerful actress Michelle Williams have called it quits earlier this month.

A source reported to People that the two couldn’t keep up with the long distance.

While Segel films How I Met Your Mother in L.A., Williams and daughter Matilda (with the late Heath Ledger) reside in New York City.

Sources say the couple’s break was mutual, telling Us Weekly, “It’s a sad moment. They respect each other.”

While some would celebrate that these two Hollywood hotties are once again on the market, we can’t help but be sad that little Matilda lost another father figure. Hopefully Williams can find her Prince Charming someday soon.

Mother Monster Cancels Tour!

Lady GaGa

After what she thought would be just a minor injury, Lady Gaga has cancelled the rest of her “Born This Way Ball” tour.

Her rep told People, “After additional tests this morning to review the severity of the issue, it has been determined that Lady Gaga has a labral tear of the right hip.”

The star tried to reschedule the tour dates, but with such bad pain and the need for surgery, she had no choice but to apologize to her “monsters” and put her health first.

She recently posted an apology on her Facebook page, telling fans, “It is nearly impossible for me to forgive myself.”

Refunds will be available on Thursday.

Get well soon, Mother Monster. All things happen for a reason; we’re sure she’ll make a killer comeback.

And The Sexiest Man Alive Is…

Channing Tatum has been crowned People‘s highest honor, as it has been confirmed he will be 2012’s Sexiest Man Alive.

Tatum was always seen as a chiseled heartthrob. From his breakout role in Step Up to last year’s tearjerker The Vow, he always had the girls swooning.

But it wasn’t until he stripped down in Magic Mike that the 32-year old actor came up on top.

This is the year for Channing Tatum. Not only will he be People’s 2012 “Sexiest Man Alive,” but he also hits GQ’s list of Men of The Year.

Jenna Dewan Tatum, wife of the Sexiest Man Alive told People, “He’s far more than just a ripped physique.”

That may be so, but it doesn’t hurt that he’s got washboard abs and a smile that makes the girls melt.

People’s “Sexiest Man Alive” issue hits newsstands Friday; if you need eye candy of the past and present, be sure to check it out.

Debate #1: The Gloves Come Off

The University of Denver felt the heat Wednesday evening during the first Presidential debate. Both President Obama and Governor Romney brought their A-game, but not necessarily the game needed to win America over on domestic issues.

Both President Obama and Governor Romney brought up good points over the issues of jobs, deficits, health care, and education. However, while Obama came off cool, calm, and collected, using his charm to try and woo the audience, Romney was constantly on attack, making him to be the one to look out for. There were moments when Romney gave condescending looks or comments, but his tactics prove that nice guys finish last, leaving Obama off-guard and at a disadvantage. It might have been Obama’s wedding anniversary, but his shout out to the First Lady didn’t help him win over America the way he thought it would.

One of Romney’s greatest and most memorable arguments in this debate was on deficits. Governor Romney was on the prowl, saying that the only way to fix this issue is to look at it at an economic and moral level. To do this, he said America needs to lower spending and raise economic growth. Instead of constantly borrowing from China, we need to put a test on certain programs, and if they don’t pass the test they get cut. Two things he believes needs to be removed are Obamacare and PBS. There was a point when Governor Romney looked at Jim Lehrer and said, “I like PBS. I love Big Bird. I even like you.” That to me, was a quote that put Romney ahead, politically and personality-wise, showing that no matter who or what is likeable in this country, if it is unnecessary and burdening, then it will be removed.

Obama was all about democracy in this debate, but he lost many when Romney indicated that the President has put 90 billion dollars into green jobs. If he is so pro-education, why were these jobs not given towards the teachers whom he says deserve more job opportunities? He spoke about how he saved the auto industry, how there should be bigger government, and how his grandmother was able to live independently because of Medicaid, but not once did I find him throwing out the aggressive arguments he has claimed to have made throughout the election. I do think it would have benefited him to throw Romney under the bus with his infamous speech that 47% of the unemployed population are moochers, but I also believe that the President did not realize how aggressive this debate would be. He has always been more about conversing with the people, so this time around left him at a shocking state.

One thing I’ll say is despite Romney’s “win” at 67% on this debate, the real loser was Jim Lehrer. It was visible that he was unable to control the candidates, and he was often spoken over by both the President and Governor Romney. No matter who had the better arguments, it was as if both candidates had the upper hand over Lehrer, often speaking out of turn or over time.

The candidates’ final arguments are what chose a winner in my eyes. Before they closed, Romney argued that to fix partisan gridlock, there needs to be a collaboration between the parties. Obama agreed, as they both often did throughout the debate, but while they agreed on some, they disagreed on most. Obama tried to battle it out after Romney stated that on Day 1 of Presidency, he planned to repeal Obamacare. According to the President, “Governor Romney’s going to have a busy first day,” but busy or not, I didn’t seem too enticed by what his first day plans were. President Obama is consistent in his arguments, but they aren’t as strong and convincing as Governor Romney’s.

In the end, President Obama remained true to his faith on the American people. His stand-out moment of the debate was when he asked how to build on our strengths, and went on to say, “I promised that I’d fight every single day for the American people.” Has he fought? Yes. But has he succeeded? Not so much. Romney closed with a concern “about the direction America [is] heading,” and he asked what kind of American do we want for us and our children? Romney ended on a strong note, and I do agree with America that he won this first debate.

The second debate is right around the corner, and our campus is readily and proudly preparing for it. It will take more than this first debate to get undecided voters to make their decision, but at least now the candidates know what they are in for. Hopefully the next debate isn’t Obama’s birthday; otherwise, he’d really fall apart, and frankly, he can’t afford another loss.
